We grew up on Great Barrier Island and have been surfing its breaks since we were grommets.
Between us we have over 50 years of surfing experience (over 20 years each that is!).
Since our early days as kids surfing on the Barrier we’ve surfed all over the world (including, Indonesia, Morocco, Portugal and France); however, there’s no place like home.
Kelly
Kelly learnt to surf on the Barrier and received a diploma in sports and fitness education and a certificate in scientific surfing from Martin Dune who has been a for runner in surf coaching. He also holds the National Beach Lifeguard Qualification and Level 3 British Surf Coach Qualification
Kelly currently teaches at a surf school in Cornwal, UK. he’s returning to The Barrier to run and teach at Aotea Surf School with his childhood mate.
Prue
Kelly's sister Prue, surfs and lives on the Barrier year round.
Prue lives a 5 minute walk away from the surf school on Medlands beach, and when ever the swell is up can be found heading up to "the bar" for some tube time.
Prue has a successful history with surfing having represented New Zealand in the World Surfing Games. Prue is a qualified Beach Lifeguard and level 2 surf coach.
Isaac
Another one of those London-based Kiwis, Isaac (Izzy as he’s know to his friends) has surfed in Indonesia, Morocco and even Italy. He has surfed for the last 15 years, earning his stripes on The Barrier. Despite the demands of work, Izzy can be found most weekends travelling down to Cornwall to surf with Kelly. He’s home on The Barrier this summer to run and teach at Aotea Surf School. Izzy also holds the National Beach Lifeguard Qualification and Level 2 British Surf Coach Qualification.
